After the renovation of one of the chapels to its original intended state, I would like to propose that a hole be dug in it's floor, going down through the layers of the chapels fondations, the earth and rock. The hole would be four metres deep and about 1,5 metres in diameter. Positioned at the bottom of the hole in the depths of earth and rock would be a chair. To access the chair their would be a ladder placed inside the hole.
is a space for quiet solitary thought. A place to come down to earth inside
the earth and think deeply. Going down into the hole, into the darkness of
ones thoughts and to then climb again the ladder rising up as St. Lazarus
rose from the dead. The hole is both a place to symbolicly experience death
and return to life and a place in the darkness to ask questions and search
for answers, a place of uncertainty.
Perhaps the chapel could be named after St. Lazarus.
