It's so easy
project by Luis Vásquez Elorza

With the advice of the SEAB - COSRAB office and the collaboration of Bergadano

Our actual behavior affects the consumption of: food, clothes, services etc, we pay for and enjoy all of these, and all the pleasure that we can get from them. We take pleasure in our consumption without knowing the cost behind it.
For example the energy, human effort, natural resources, contamination necessary to make it, and also to process all the waste produced by the process itself.
Recycling is an alternative, we can recover a great amount of material to reuse, but this also has some economical problems, some waste is not considered packaging and for that reason no tax is payed for the process of recycling. How can this happen? It's the same material, there aren't reasons, maybe economical ones but not logical reasons, to have that discrimination, at the end all this non "packaging" is going to be incinerated. This is another important topic. With this we can get rid of almost everything, after converting it into energy for different applications, but in another way we also get a lot of contamination, right now there is an idea to build an incinerator in this region. But the problem with waste remains the same: everyone makes it but no one wants to have it near by.
Biella has good recycling statistics, it exeeds the minimun level that the government requires, the last campaigns developed for the COSRAB helped to raise it. Nevertheless there is another impotant amount of possible recycling waste: plastic, paper, etc, which is almost of the same quantity after recycling. This is sent to the incinerator because it's mixed with food and organic material, because to clean all that amount would waste a lot of water, time, people, energy, etc. But if everyone recycled in the right way, separating everything like the recycling program says, we would get better use of the resources. When we recycle it means we reduce the raw material production, less waste, less land fills and one more reason to not build the incinerator in the region. Everything is economical: if we can get a better waste management, a good recycling behavior, all these things become more reasons to say no to the incinerator. It's always cheaper to transport a little amount of garbage to another place; in this way the region that produces a large amount has more reason to acommodate it.
How much waste do you make per day?, how much can you avoid? Use only that you need and do it in the best way, a lot of waste that you throw is not your fault, but if you start to change some habits, after we can demand some changes in the packaging system, eg.: more responsibility from the industry.

It's easy, to start, put everything in its place.
