The Subtle Urgencies
The two-week experience which will involve Cittadellarte in Biella and Art House in Shkodër aims at investigating the dimension of urgency in research and artistic expression.
The artistic language, like any codified language, can get into the rhythm of a sterile and manneristic inertia. Ways of thinking and modes of expression can adapt to a basic conformism, despite the rhetoric of the surface dressed in antagonism recalls.
Rediscovering the dimension of urgency means questioning the adapting of the formulas of thought and expression and investigating the deep motivations that start a creative action. The urgencies that push towards the articulation of a different thought can only be intimate and deep, but at the same time they do not belong exclusively to the individual subject.
How to tune into and feel the call of the urgencies, at the same time intimate and collective, of the urgencies of the language itself and look for possible answers?
How to stay alert to the subtle signals that remind a form and encourage us towards an action beyond any default position?
Two weeks are not enough to exhaust these questions, but it is a period in which we can share ideas, suggestions, experiences, and actions that attempt to call into question the habits to investigate the subtle urgencies of making art.

BIOGRAPHY
Adrian Paci was born in 1969 in Shkodër, Albania. He studied painting at the Academy of Art of Tirana. In 1997 he moved to Milan where he lives and works. Throughout his career he held numerous solo shows in various international institutions. Amongst the last group shows Paci’s work has been featured in the International Architecture Exhibition at "La Biennale di Venezia" (2014); the "International Art Exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia" (1999 and 2005); in the "15th Biennale of Sydney" (2006). His works are shown in numerous public and private collections.
A consistent part of his artistic research is dedicated to his homeland. In his work, Paci explores the boundaries between the personal and the political as well as the identities and rituals that are forged along those borders.
Adrian Paci teaches painting at Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti NABA, Milan. He has been a teaching art classes at Accademia Carrara di Belle Ari Bergamo, 2002-2006, IUAV, Venice 2003-2015 and has been giving lectures and workshops in many universities, art academies and institutions in different countries.
In 2015 Paci founded Art House, bringing to his home town, Shkodër, the contribution of international personalities of the arts and culture.

Leonardo Caffo, PhD, is Adjunct Professor of Ontology and Design at Politecnico di Torino and Post-doctoral Fellow in Philosophy at the University of Turin (Prima Spes Scholarship), where he is also former member of the LabOnt (Laboratory for Ontology) and founder of Labont|Arch. He has been Fellow of the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics and visiting scholar of Jawaharlal Nehru University (New Delhi). He has also been Chief of Seminar (Animal Philosophy) with DAAD Program at the University of Kassel and visiting professor at Politecnico di Milano. He is a columnist for Huffington Post and Corriere della Sera, Editor of Rivista di Estetica and Ardeth: Architectural Design Theory; he is also Co-director of Animot: l’altra filosofia. He was the founder and past-director of Animal Studies and the Rivista Italiana di Filosofia Analitica Jr and he is also the coordinator of research group “Waiting Posthuman Studio”. Leonardo Caffo has worked in the field of social ontology and realism, human animal studies and posthumanism (is also invited member of EACAS), effective altruism, future studies and philosophy of anarchism and architecture. Attaching is name to the theory of “antispecismo debole” (weak antispeciesism); he won the “Premio Nazionale Frascati Filosofia” (2015). His latest books: An art for the Other (Lantern, New York 2015), A come Animale (Bompiani, Milano 2015), La vita di ogni giorno (Einaudi, Torino 2016).
Zef Paci is graduated in Painting from High Institute of Arts in Tirana and has obtained PhDdegree from Center of Albanological Studies, Tirana at the Institute of Studies of Anthropology and Art in the field of the photography.
From 2009-2012, he was the curator of the annual prize “Ardhje” organized by T. I. C. A. (Tirana International Contemporary Art).
In 2008, 2011, 2013, 2015 he was the curator of the “Idromeno” exhibition, a national prize for the young artists organized by the Gallery of Art of Shkodër.
He curated solo exhibitions of some known Albanian Artists and also some national and international artistic exhibitions: “The unrevealed drawings of Edi Hila”, 2005; “Mean time”, 2009, “Year ‘11”, 2011 at Zeta Gallery; “Franc Ashiku, a title for a creativity”(postum) at Zeta Gallery, Tirana, 2009; “What happened to the general?” at the Gallery fo the Academy of Fine Arts (FAP), Tirana. In 2016, he was the curator of the permanent exhibition of “Marubi National Museum of Photography”.
He is author of some monographies, catalogues and publications on art, image and most on photography: Marubi, photography as ritual (2012); MARUBI: The moving lens of an archive, Publication of National Galery of Kosovo (2014); The History of European Photography 1939-1969 II, (albanian photography) bashkautor (Central Europian House of Photography 2014 www.sedf.sk). Since 1999 he is professor of History of Art and Photography at the University of Fine Arts in Tirana.
The residency fee includes accomodation, full board and Arci's Annual Pass Membership.
Travel expenses related to the trip to Shkodër to be covered by the participants.
