We are happy to announce UNIDEE OPEN STUDIO, the public presentation of the artists and curators hosted at UNIDEE Residency Programs, the artistic residency program of Cittadellarte - Fondazione Pistoletto that since more than twenty-four years it has welcomed international artists and researchers to spend periods of research in Biella.
On the occasion of the event we will inaugurate a new space dedicated to studios for residences, UNIDEE Space, located close to the bridge between via Cernaia and via Serralunga.

Each of the eight artists, curators and researchers - Hiba G. Isleem (PS), Irtiza Malik (IND), Tamara Lang (FR), Elie Bouisson and Park Chae Biole (FR), Anna Kryvenko (UA), Maria Lanko (UA), Nina Vurdelja (HR/FI) - developed their research during their stay in Biella for a period varying between two weeks and two months - thanks to a series of international partners, interacting with other researchers and artists, visiting the area and delving deeper into the contemporary Italian art scene.

Hiba G. Isleem, Palestinian artist hosted in residence thanks to the twenty-year partnership with the Palestinian Institution A.M. Qattan Foundation, will present her project Maata, a video installation created with the stop motion animation technique, in which the artist explores the metaphor of travel and the continuous challenges she encounters in his daily movements.

The Indian artist Irtiza Malik, originally from Kashmir, has been selected for the residency in collaboration with the important Indian foundation Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation, and during the event she will introduce her project Doota paani / As water drowned, part of her project a long-term Shifting lands, which maps the unexplained natural phenomena of disappeared and emerging sites in conflict regions. Through an installation the artist explores both the land and the water aquatic landscapes, imaginary and literal, of an occupied and colonized region.

Thanks to the Nouveau Grand Tour project, supported by Institut Français Italia, UNIDEE hosted a French artist and a collective for seven weeks.
Tamara Lang presents her project La Part de l'Ourse (The Bear's Part), an illustrated album on which she works through texts and drawings. During the OPEN STUDIO Tamara will activate the fragments and research materials through a shadow theater performance.
Elie Bouisson and Park Chae Biole, who work together as an interdisciplinary collective, present their experimentation on bodily practices of inhabiting space.

Within the Culture of Solidarity Studio Program - For Your Freedom and Ours project, UNIDEE will host a curator and a visual artist of Ukrainian nationality for a period of six months starting from September 2023, thanks to the special support of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo. In UNIDEE OPEN STUDIO they present their work in progress.
Anna Kryvenko, visual artist and filmmaker, develops research on the geopolitical concept of Europe, starting from its center and its geographical borders as hypothetical places, reflecting on the colonial dynamics of Europe's narratives, cultural representations and the constructions of global identities. Additionally, Anna presents her evolving video research on the complex topic of empathy within the realm of social media and news.
Maria Lanko, a Kyiv-based and internationally active curator, explores through the narrative and archival practice of her personal experience (images, videos, screenshots, messages and other digital traces) what wartime curation work means.

Nina Vurdelja, artist and researcher based in Finland, presents the project she developed in Paphos (Cyprus) and Biella, thanks to the collaboration with the creative hub of Paphos Kimonos Art Center. Her research focuses on the relationship of the human body to the changing landscape and embodied relationships with the environment and non-human beings.

We thank the partners for the UNIDEE Research Residencies: A.M. Qattan Foundation (Palestine), Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, Inlaks Shivdasani Foundation (India), Institut Français Italia, Kimonos Art Center (Cyprus).
