D_Art Lab
Turning Point Design

D_Art Lab is a creative workshop whose aims are to conceive, project and produce turning point design objects and to promote a new business perspective where sustainability and creativity become the key to success among global competition.

With this project, the production office reconfirms its position at an international level specialising in research and operational project planning on the rapport between art and design.  This is meant not just in the sense of a reciprocal contamination of styles and languages, but above all else in the foundation of a new common perspective: that of the turning point, which is designed along the directions of sustainability and creative responsibility.

In this sense Cittadellarte researches responsible innovation through the potential aesthetic-ethic of Design: every product is the generator and carrier of messages of social values incorporated into the prime materials, the production process, the needs and functions to whom or what they refer, in communication and in the market system.

D_Art Lab – part of the calendar of Turin 2008 World Design Capital – involves twelve Italian companies based in Piedmont, and eleven creatives from different parts of the world.

The initiative develops in an articulated programme of conception, projection and the production of Turning Point Design objects.

Project Phases:

The prototypes are in exhibition at Cittadellarte from the 24th of November till the end of February 2009.

The initial phase of the project, which concluded at the end of May 2008, involved the designers in a workshop in residence at Cittadellarte, which organised a series of meetings with amongst others: Michelangelo Pistoletto, the renowned international designer Ross Lovegrove, experts from Experientia, the Lungomare Gallery, Edoardo Malagigi, Diego Paccagniella from LAGO, and from Cittadellarte, Paolo Naldini and Francesco Bernabei.

The second phase was the conception of the objects by the designers in synergy with the companies, followed by the final phase, the realisation of the prototypes.
